Indri Calls and Baobab Sunsets

A Journey from East to West – Discover the Island’s Spectacular Diversity

Tour route : Tana - Andasibe - Antsirabe - Miandrivazo - Kirindy - Morondava - Tana

Tour Overview | From Rainforests to Dry Forests

Prepare to embark on a remarkable journey across Madagascar, an island defined by striking contrasts, powerful landscapes, and extraordinary biodiversity. This east-to-west odyssey reveals the island in all its richness - from lush rainforests alive with lemur calls to vast dry plains punctuated by ancient baobabs. Your adventure begins in the misty rainforests of Andasibe National Park, where the haunting dawn chorus of the Indri indri echoes through emerald canopies. Here, dense primary forest shelters an exceptional concentration of endemic wildlife, offering a profound introduction to Madagascar’s natural world. From the east, travel south along the legendary RN7, one of Madagascar’s most iconic routes. The road winds through terraced rice fields, red-earth highlands, and vibrant rural villages where daily life unfolds much as it has for generations. In Antsirabe, discover volcanic landscapes, tranquil lakes, and traditional craftsmanship that reflect the cultural heart of the Malagasy highlands. Continuing westward, reach Miandrivazo, gateway to the Tsiribihina region and a historic crossroads between highlands and lowlands. From here, the landscapes gradually transform as the humid east gives way to Madagascar’s dry western ecosystems. In Kirindy Forest Reserve, explore dry deciduous forests renowned for their unique wildlife. This is one of the best places in Madagascar to observe nocturnal lemurs and, with luck, the elusive fossa, the island’s top predator and a symbol of its untamed wilderness.

Avenue of the Baobabs - Morondava

Sunset Among Giants As the day draws to a close, arrive at the legendary Avenue of the Baobabs, one of Madagascar’s most iconic natural landmarks. Towering centuries-old baobabs line the dusty track like silent sentinels, their massive silhouettes glowing in the warm light of sunset. Standing beneath these giants as the sky turns gold and crimson is a powerful and unforgettable moment—one that captures the very essence of Madagascar’s wild beauty and timeless spirit. After sunset, continue to Morondava, a laid-back coastal town where the rhythm of the ocean meets the warmth of Malagasy life. Settle in for the night and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Madagascar’s western shores.
